Lo and behold the motherboard has a burnout on the back of it (though nothing appears to be wrong when looking at the front of it). i just wanted to make sure it was safe to assume that the motherboard is the problem (or more so that it is the only apparent problem) before i go ahead and order the part.. I have been after my dad for a long time to upgrade my pc to something more decent.however he insists on using my old p2 till it dies completely (not that money is an issue).yes you got that right i still use a freaking pentium 2. so the only solution it seems is tomake the motherboard seem to die of natural causes like power surge etc.. So i had gotten a new fan for this motherboard, and intended to use it in teh new pc i was building. i plugged the fan in, and when i pressed the power switch, my test setup released a fair amount of the magic blue smoke from the underside of the board, the fan connector looked fine..
